What is Homeopathy?

Let's Start Learning!

Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann at the end of the 18th century. He developed it using the scientific principle of like cures like which states that a substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy person, will stimulate the body to produce a healing response, in someone with those same symptoms, when produced as a homeopathic remedy.

To understand how like cures like, think of the onion.  When most people chop an onion symptoms such as watery, stinging eyes appear.  When we turn a drop of onion oil into a homeopathic remedy called Allium cepa, it can be used to help something dealing with the symptom of watery, stinging eyes common to a cold or allergies.

Assorted Medicine

A homeopathic remedy is developed through a process of repeated dilution and succussion, called potentization, that unlocks the therapeutic powers of the substance while removing any toxicity of the original substance.

Homeopathic medicines are regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and prepared by homeopathic pharmacies according to the standards of the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS).

Homeopathy doesn’t “treat” an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. In order to be treated or diagnosed, a Practical Homeopath™ believes that the advice of a holistic physician is in order.
